New Pick-up Truck Prices Hit $100K Mark!

New Pick-up Truck Prices Hit $100K Mark, Leaving Local Buyers Looking For Alternatives

In the Rio Grande Valley, people love pickup trucks. According to the Detroit Free Press, new pickups prices have steadily risen so fast that they’re now out of reach for average consumers. Some full-size pickups can cost more than $100,000. Edmunds' data shows that prices for new pickup truck prices increased 48-percent from 10 years ago and 19-percent from 2013.

It’s no surprise that buyers in the McAllen, Harlingen and Brownville area are stepping back from new pick up trucks when you consider that the median home value in Cameron County is only $89,900.

That’s why many are in the RGV are turning to independent used car dealers like Trevino’s Auto Mart. The average price of a previously owned pick-up at Trevino’s Auto Mart are around $20,000. With these low prices and great finance options, used pickup trucks are quality, affordable options for people all over South Texas.

Save More Buying Preowned from Trevino's Auto Mart

With new car prices soaring to an all-time average high of $36,848, many people are feeling priced out of the market says a new report from The Wall Street Journal. But, with the national average price for a 1-3 year-old used car being under $22,500, more and more people are snatching up pre-owned cars in South Texas from McAllen to Harlingen to Brownsville.

As people in the Rio Grande Valley have learned, with the price difference of almost $13,500, this the widest gap between new and previously owned cars in five years. The end of zero percent financing from car manufacturing has also led to higher monthly payments for new car buyers.

Still, the demand for quality vehicles remains high as families in Harlingen, McAllen and Brownsville outgrow their vehicles or need to replace them. Previously owned cars are now seen as a quality, affordable option for people from all over South Texas.

Its no wonder people in McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville and as far as San Antonio and Houston regularly purchase from Trevino’s Auto Mart where the average pre-owned vehicle price is $17,500. That is almost a $20,000 savings versus purchasing new vehicle and a $5,000 savings from purchasing from other pre-owned dealers.

What is a Vehicle Service Contract?

Buying a pre-owned vehicle from McAllen-area car dealers is a very wise choice. After deciding to purchase a vehicle, your thoughts should then shift focus to saving as much as possible throughout the ownership of the vehicle. A comprehensive Vehicle Service Contract is a must have for someone looking to get the most return for their investment.

Not all dealerships in McAllen offer vehicle service contracts.

This is especially true if your used vehicle basic factory warranty has expired. No matter what vehicle you own, at some point its going to break down. All vehicles eventually break down. No one knows when, but break downs are a certainty. With time and mileage, repair or replacement of standard parts is inevitable.

Repairs can be expensive for used cars in McAllen when your vehicle warranty expires. Standard repairs can quickly turn in to huge out-of-pocket expenses. Protecting your vehicle beyond the warranty with a vehicle service contract reduces the risk of having to pay for costly repairs down the road. With our Vehicle Service Contract (VSC) programs you can choose flexible or affordable coverage for a few components of your vehicle, or coverage that is more comprehensive. You can even choose the mileage and term that is best for you.

If you sell your vehicle during the contract period, the coverage can be transferred to the new owner, which may increase the resale value of your vehicle. This will also give you an advantage in the RGV used cars sales market.

Our best-selling vehicle service contract offers comprehensive coverage at competitive prices compared to other car dealers in McAllen. This coverage is so extensive, it protects nearly ALL mechanical and electrical components except those listed in the “What Is Not Covered” section of the agreement!

Our best-selling VSC includes the following Features and Benefits:

    • Flat Tire Change
    • Vehicle Jump Start
    • Lockout Key Recovery
    • Emergency Fuel, Oil, Coolant
  • Helps Cover Trip Interruption - Reimburses Hotel, Meals, misc.
    • If your used car breaks down due to a covered component, and you're more than 100 miles away from home, the VSC program will reimburse you for your meal and/or lodging expenses for up to 3 days at $150 per day.
  • Transferable to Subsequent Owners - Increases Resale Value
  • Cancellable - Only pay for what you use.

What is GAP? (Guaranteed Asset Protection)

Every year, nearly 6 million vehicles are either totaled or stolen. Most insurance plans only cover the market value of the vehicle. However, you can still owe more on your loan than your vehicle is worth. This creates a GAP. You will be responsible for paying the difference and the deductible on your insurance. If you do not pay the difference, your credit will more than likely be adversely affected. By including GAP, you protect yourself by covering the amount between what you owe, and the market value of your vehicle whether your vehicle is leased or financed and, in some cases, covers your insurance deductible.

Some of the key benefits of purchasing GAP coverage include:

  • Helps to ensures 100% of loan is repaid
  • Helps to eliminate personal liability
  • Can pay insurance deductible up to $1,000
  • Very affordable
  • Can be paid up-front or be included in your vehicle's monthly payment

Will applying affect my FICO credit score?

Its perhaps one of the most common questions with regards to car buying: If I run my credit, will it affect my FICO credit score? While soft credit inquiries do not affect your FICO Score, hard inquiries do. Hard inquires occur when you submit applications to institutions for credit or financing ie: auto loan, mortgages, student loans; however, FICO scoring accounts for “rate shopping” for these types of specific credit checks.  Per the myFICO website, “[rate shopping] is the smart thing to do, and your FICO score considers all inquiries with a 45-day period for a mortgage, an auto loan or a student loan as a single credit inquiry.”  By doing your car shopping within a short period, one could dodge decreasing their FICO score.

Per the MYFICO website: Your FICO score considers all inquiries within a 45-day period for a mortgage, an auto loan or a student loan as a single credit inquiry. The first inquiry in the 45-day period is what may slightly affect credit score. You can avoid lowering your FICO Score by doing your rate hunting within a short period. For many people, one additional credit inquiry (voluntary and initiated by an application for credit) may not affect their FICO score at all. For others, one additional credit inquiry would take less than 5 points off their FICO score. For more info on how inquiries affect credit score visit myFICO Credit Inquiry Q&A:
